Pitt Opens 2026 Slate at Penn State Saturday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field team will travel to Penn State to compete in the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday, January 17.
- Field events begin at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put.
- The Panthers take the track at 12 p.m. in the women's mile.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers competed at the Youngstown State Icebreaker on Dec. 6, 2025.
- Pitt claimed nine first place, six second place and five third place finishes.
- Jaden Shelton earned a first-place finish in the men's 60-meter hurdles, setting a personal best and the third best time in program history, 7.68. Shelton went on to finish second in the men's 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 6.74, another personal best and the sixth fastest time at Pitt.
- Che Nwabuko finished just in front of Shelton in the men's 60-meter dash, in 6.73.
- Both the men's and the women's 4x400 relay squads took first. Jana Bruses, Somiyah Braggs, Alexandria Scott and Alma Evuna Eki set a pace of 3:50.58. On the men's side, Cole Strother, Colin Kravitz, Darren McQueen Jr. and Malachi Williams put forth a 3:13.62 effort.
- Transfer student-athletes Maliah Edwards, Precious Irivi and Alexandria Scott made their marks in their first meet as Panthers, each earning first place at the meet in their respective events. Edwards recorded the program's ninth fastest 60-meter hurdles time of 8.50. Irivi leaped 15.38 in the men's long jump for #3 overall. Scott claimed first place in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:18.75.
- Emeka Ugwu returned for his sophomore season, tying the program's #2 mark in the shot put with a throw of 17.73-meters en route to second place.
- Uri Arnon leaped to second place and the program's sixth best mark in the triple jump, 15.15-meters.
- Pitt went 1-2 in the women's 60-meter dash. Somiyah Braggs crossed the line in 7.57 seconds, followed by Endeyah Lane in 7.51. Lane's time was a personal best and the 10th fastest in the blue and gold.
- Pitt finished second (Eva Baldursdottir, 1.76m) and third (Alesia Rengle, 1.73m) in the women's high jump.
- Freshmen Josiah Montgomery, Kendrick Ford and Jacob Burgess made their collegiate debuts with third place finishes. Montgomery recorded the fourth best Pitt mark in the men's shot put, 17.41-meters. Ford ran a 6.80 time in the men's 60-meter dash for the seventh best time in program history. Burgess earned bronze in the men's long jump with a 6.95-meter leap.
- Maddie Lewis took third in the long jump on the women's side, jumping 5.79-meters.

- Pitt will return to Penn State again in two weeks for the Penn State National Open January 30-31.
