Panthers Collect Six Medals at 2026 ACC Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Both Pitt men's and women's track and field teams finished 14th at the 2026 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The men collected 15 points, while the women earned 22 points during the three-day meet.
The Panthers garnered six medals across five events. Alesia Rengle earned a silver medal in the high jump, recording an indoor personal best of 1.78 meters to secure First Team All-ACC accolades. Eva Baldursdottir was also awarded a medal for her fourth-place finish, earning Second Team All-ACC recognition. Niya Crawford and Jaden Shelton finished in fourth place as well in their respective events – the women's shot put and the men's 60 meters hurdles. Somiyah Braggs secured fifth in the women's 200 meters and Luke Simpson went the distance in the mile to collect sixth place.
DAY ONE RECAP
- Somiyah Braggs advanced to the 200 meters finals with a time of 23.71 in the preliminary round. She finished first in her heat and sixth overall. Alma Evuna Eki turned in a personal best time of 24.55 to finish 16th.
- Thomas McMahon finished 23rd in the men's 5K with a time of 14:06.22.
- Madisyn Hawkins recorded a mark of 16.98 meters in the women's weight throw.
- The men's distance medley relay squad of Damian Frausto, James Long, Quintin Gatons and Graham Heinrich finished 13th with a season's best 9:58.23.
DAY TWO RECAP
- Alesia Rengle earned the Panthers' first medal of the meet, a silver in the women's high jump. Rengle leaped a personal best 1.78 meters to secure second.
- Eva Baldursdottir finished in a three-way tie for fourth in the high jump. Baldursdottir cleared 1.72 meters.
- In the men's mile, Luke Simpson qualified for the finals after finishing second in his heat with a 4:04.69 pace.
- Jaden Shelton will compete on Saturday with his 7.77 qualifying time in the 60 meters hurdles.
- Antwan James was 13th in the event, stopping the clock in 8.11.
- Maddie Lewis earned 17th place with a 5.47 meters long jump.
- Maliah Edwards nearly qualified for the 60 meters hurdles with her time of 8.43.
- Jana Bruses ran an 8.51 in the same event.
- In the men's 400 meters, Colin Kravitz and Cole Strother ran respective times of 47.72 and 49.45.
- Darren McQueen Jr., Che Nwabuko, and Jaden Shelton competed in the 60 meters prelims. McQueen Jr. and Nwabuko finished consecutively in 10th and 11th with times of 6.77 and 6.78. Shelton stopped the clock in 6.93.
- Somiyah Braggs earned her second spot in the finals after she timed out at 7.36 in the women's 60 meters prelims. Braggs finished second in her heat and eighth overall to secure the last spot in the finals.
- Faith Dennis ran a personal best time of 7.49 in the 60 meters prelims. Her time goes down as the 10th fastest time in program history.
DAY THREE RECAP
- Luke Simpson earned Pitt's first medal in the mile in program history with his sixth place performance and 4:03.94 time. Simpson received Second Team All-ACC accolades for his effort.
- Jaden Shelton grabbed fourth place in the men's 60 meters hurdles with a time of 7.78.
- Uri Arnon solidified seventh place in the triple jump with his 15.17 meters mark, scoring two points for the men's team.
- Emeka Ugwu also secured seventh place, in the shot put. The sophomore connected for a throw of 17.77-meters.
- Freshman Josiah Montgomery, competing in his first ACC Championships, threw for 16.52 meters for 13th place.
- Somiyah Braggs finished 8th in the 60 meters to grab one point for the women's team. Braggs crossed the finish line in 7.39. She then
- Niya Crawford had a personal best 16.19 meters throw in the shot put to claim fourth place. She remains third on the program's top 10 list with that mark.
