Panthers Excel at the Nittany Lion Challenge

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa – After more than a month without competition, Pitt track and field returned to action at the Nittany Lion Challenge, hosted by Penn State at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track on Saturday.
The Panthers recorded five first place, ten second place and five third place performances.

NOTABLE FINISHES
- Alexandria Scott recorded the 4th fastest 600-meter time at the Nittany Lion Challenge and the 8th fastest time in Pitt history, crossing the line in 1:33.84.
- After finishing 6th in the first round of the men's 60-meter hurdles, Antwan James ended in 4th in the final with a time of 8.14.
- After Camy Kiser led Pitt to finish in 2nd in the women's 3000-meter run, five Panthers finished consecutively in 4th through 8th place. Elena Barrall (9:51.44), Sydney Nowicki (9:56.24), Christina Elliott (9:59.28), Ella Cook (10.01.89) and Alex Fleck (10:10,04) posted solid times for Pitt.
- Maliah Edwards tied her personal best time of 8.50 in the first round of the women's 60-meter hurdles to advance to the final. Jana Bruses joined Edwards with her qualifying speed of 8.64. In the end, Bruses earned 5th in 8.64 and Edwards followed in 7th, stopping the clock in 8.78.
- Cole Strother clocked 5th in the 300-meter race with a 34.46 time.
- Jacob Burgess secured 6th place in the men's long jump with a measurement of 6.61m.
- Maddie Lewis finished 7th in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.35m.
- Maya Maycock earned 7th place in the 200-meter with a personal best 25.13.
- Madisyn Hawkins recorded a personal best in the weight throw with a launch of 16.86-meters for 9th place.
- Jaden Shelton delivered a 9th place performance in the 200-meter race with a time of 22.28.
- Maureen Cheruiyot was the top finisher for Pitt in the women's mile, finishing 11th in the with a time of 4:56.60. Ava Lane recorded a personal best of 5:04.00 in the same event, collecting 17th place.

The Panthers will return to University Park for the Penn State National Open the weekend of Jan. 30-31.
