
Pitt Track and Field Returns to Action at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's track and field teams return from the holiday hiatus to compete in the Nittany Lion Challenge at the Ashenfelter Multi-Sport Complex and Indoor Track on the campus of Penn State University this Saturday, January 13th. Field events are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. Track events will begin at 11:00 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT – YSU ICEBREAKER
The Panthers had great success in the first meet of the 2023-2024 season. Pitt won eight events titles, setting three meet records in the process.
- Lydia Bottelier got the meet started for the Panthers, taking first place in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.75m.
- Somiyah Braggs kept the momentum going, winning the 60m in her collegiate debut with a time of 7.44.
- Stephon Brown won the men's 60m, crossing the line in 6.67 seconds.
- Norrah Lemongo prevailed in her first collegiate meet, claiming the women's shot put crown with a mark of 14.50m. Lemongo was later named ACC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
- Success Duruzor won the women's 400m in 55.51 seconds. Caleia Johnson finished just behind Duruzor in second place with a time of 56.42 seconds.
- Ilse Steigenga won the women's long jump by a long shot with a mark of 6.28m.
- Mackenzie Sullivan won the women's 800m for the second consecutive year, setting a new YSU Icebreaker meet record with her time of 2:13.28. Sullivan received ACC Women's Track Athlete of the Week accolades for her success.
- The women's 4x400m relay squad consisting of Somiyah Braggs, Success Duruzor, Caleia Johnson, and Mackenzie Sullivan set a new meet record with their 3:46.31 first place finish. The quartet of Ilse Steigenga, Lydia Bottelier, Taylor Newton, and Aubrey Leneweaver also broke the previous meet record and finished with a time of 3:46.74.

The Panthers will travel to Blacksburg, Virginia for the Hokie Invitational on Friday, January 19th and Saturday, January 20th.
