FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Pitt baseball (7-4) defeated Campbell (5-7) 11-5 in the finale of the All-American Classic Sunday at Segra Stadium. Panthers and Camels both finished the nonconference, round-robin tournament with a 2-1 record with Pitt earning the head-to-head victory.
The Panthers led wire-to-wire with a run in the first frame of the game. With one out, Jordan Anderson drew a walk and Tatem Levins singled to centerfield. Kyle Hess followed with a double that bounced into the right field wall to bring in Anderson from second base.
Pitt grew its lead with four runs in the third inning. Sky Duff led off with a single through the left side. Anderson laid down a bunt single, and both he and Duff advanced a base after the throw to first base from the pitcher was errant. Both of them scored on a single up the middle from Levins. With one out, Hess doubled again to right center. Levins raced home on a wild pitch with two outs, and Hess tagged up and slid safely at home on a sac fly to right field from Bryce Hulett.
The offense continued to click in the next inning. The bases were loaded with no outs after a leadoff walk from Tommy Tavarez, single through the right side from Duff and another bunt single from Anderson. Levins followed with a grand slam to right center, his fifth homer of the year and fourth-straight game with one. With one out, Jack Anderson singled down the right field, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and came home on an RBI-single up the middle from Hulett.
After the Camels got on the board with a solo homer in the fifth inning, the Panthers pushed it back to a 10-run lead in the next inning. With one out, Jack Anderson doubled to left field. After singles from Hulett and CJ Funk loaded the bases, Anderson scored on a hard-hit groundout to the first baseman from Brock Franks.
Campbell continued their scoring with an RBI-single and three-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
Pitt stays in North Carolina to face High Point Wednesday at 6 p.m.
