PITTSBURGH – The New York Mets promoted right-handed pitcher Dan Hammer to the Major Leagues on Thursday, the organization announced.
Hammer has appeared in 27 games between the Mets' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates this season, posting a 2.16 ERA over 33.1 innings of work after signing with the organization as a free agent this spring.
The Philadelphia, PA had an immediate impact upon his arrival at Pitt in 2017, making several weekend starts as a true freshman. Hammer finished his career with 189 strikeouts over 50 appearances in his three years with the program. He made 36 starts as a Panther and logged 187.1 innings pitched. Hammer ranks ninth all-time at Pitt in both strikeouts (189) and starts (36).
Hammer was selected in the 13th round of the 2019 MLB draft by the Orioles and spent the first five seasons of his professional career with Baltimore.
He spent the 2025 season in the Tampa Bay Rays' organization after they selected him in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft in the winter of 2024.
Hammer is the second Panther to play Major League Baseball this season behind his former teammate Isaac Mattson who is currently a reliever for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mattson and Hammer played together at Pitt in 2017.
