
Pitt Blasts Five Homers in 15-5 Win at High Point

Leaving a batter on with no runs in each of the first four innings, Pitt erupted for a seven-run fifth. Sky Duff led off with a single to left field and stole second base with two outs. Kyle Hess hit the first homer and his fourth of the season to right field. Ron Washington, Jr. drew a walk, and Bryce Hulett singled through the left side. CJ Funk knocked in Washington, Jr. with a single up the middle. Franks followed with his first homer of the night off the scoreboard in right field that gave Pitt the lead and game-winning run and RBI. Tommy Tavarez singled through the right side, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and scored for the final run of the frame on a Duff single up the middle.

Pitt added two more runs in the next inning. Levins led off with a homer off the scoreboard, his sixth of the year. With two outs, Washington, Jr. reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, stole second base and came home standing up on a double to left field from Funk.

The final six runs for Pitt came in the seventh inning. Duff and Jordan Anderson began with walks, and Levins loaded the bases with an infield single. Hess reached on an RBI-fielder's choice to the shortstop. Washington, Jr. then knocked in both Anderson and Hess with a double to left center. Hulett went opposite field over the left field wall for his second homer of the season. With two outs, Franks hit his second homer of the night and fifth of the season off the scoreboard.

High Point got on the board first in the second inning with two-out RBI-double and two-run single and added a pair of runs in the eighth inning.
Pitt stays in North Carolina open ACC play at No. 14 North Carolina at 4 p.m.

- Making his first collegiate start, Tyler Kennedy went 1.2 innings with three runs, one hit, two walks and one strikeout.
- Ben Dragani (1-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and three walks with five strikeouts.
- Baron Stuart threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with one hit, one walk and three strikeouts.
- Dylan Lester had two scoreless innings of relief with one hit, one walk and one strikeout.
- Ryan Miller made his Panthers' debut, recording the last five outs with no runs, no hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
- The five home runs were the most since six against Grambling State in an 18-5 win on Feb. 28, 2016.
- Pitt has hit a home run in all but one game this season and a combined 12 in the last five games.
