Panthers Drop Decision to No. 22 Virginia

WEXFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 22 Virginia on Friday afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club.
The Panthers dropped to 4-11 (0-8 ACC) on the season, while the Cavaliers improved to 12-4 (5-3 ACC).
Virginia jumped to a 1-0 lead in the team race after clinching the doubles points with wins on courts two and three. For Pitt, senior Gabriela Rezende and sophomore Claudia Bartolome came close to defeating No. 70 Gullickson/O'Dell at the No. 1 spot and were leading five to one when the Cavaliers clinched the doubles point, which meant the other match went unfinished.
Despite hard-fought battles from seniors Luisa Varon and Clara Lucas, the Panthers were also unsuccessful in singles play, dropping six matches to the Cavaliers.
The Panthers return to the Oxford Athletic Club Friday, March 29 at 3 p.m. to battle NC State before meeting North Carolina on Sunday, March 31 at 11 a.m.
