Pitt Concludes Regular Season Sunday at No. 22 Wake Forest
CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Clemson Friday evening at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 4-16 overall and 0-13 against conference foes. The Tigers move to 9-14 and 3-10 in the ACC.
Senior Gabriela Rezende recorded the lone win for the Panthers in the ACC matchup.
"The difference between the better team is the ability to handle the key moments of the match," said head coach Alex Santos. "Clemson did a better job than us just staying in the moment. I really liked the fight we showed after losing a tough doubles point."
Pitt captured the first doubles win of the day, thanks to a 6-1 effort by senior Clara Lucas and sophomore Camila Moreno. However, the match then went into a rain delay for 1:20. Following the delay, Clemson clinched the doubles point after recording back-to-back wins on courts one and two.
Moving to singles, Rezende turned in the first win to tie the dual 1-1. Rezende outlasted Miller-Krasilnikov, 6-4, 6-3.
The Tigers then jumped to a 3-1 lead after recording straight-set victories on courts six and five.
The remaining matches would need three sets to determine a winner, however, it was all Clemson.
Pitt will play its final regular season match in program history Sunday at No. 22 Wake Forest. Action is set to get underway at 10 a.m.
