Panthers to Compete in Final Conference Championship in Program History
PITTSBURGH – The 15th-seeded University of Pittsburgh tennis team will take on the No. 10 seed Notre Dame Wednesday, April 17 at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round of the 2019 ACC Championships.
The Championships will be held at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., April 17-21.
Pitt enters postseason play 4-17 overall and 0-14 against ACC foes. The 46th-ranked Irish concluded the regular season 12-11 overall and 5-9 in conference play.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers concluded its final regular season matches last weekend, falling at Clemson and Wake Forest.
- Pitt dropped a 6-1 decision at Clemson, Friday, April 12 as senior Gabriela Rezende posted the lone win in singles.
- On Sunday, April 14, the Panthers fell 4-1 at Wake Forest. Senior Natsumi Okamoto got Pitt on the board after her opponent retired in singles.
SCOUTING THE IRISH
- Notre Dame enters the Championships ranked 46th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I rankings after concluding the season with wins over Virginia Tech and Boston College.
- Zoe Spence is the lone ranked Irish player in the singles rankings this week, checking in at No. 66. Spence also checks in at No. 50 alongside Cameron Corse in doubles. Corse also ranks 85th with Bess Waldram in doubles.
- The Panthers and Irish last clashed in Pitt's ACC opener Jan. 27 in Wexford. Notre Dame defeated the Panthers, 6-1.
PITT AT THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Pitt and Notre Dame clash in the opening round of the ACC Championships for the third time in program history since Pitt joined the ACC in 2013.
- The Irish lead the series 2-0 as the two teams met in 2017 and 2016.
- The Panthers are 1-5 all-time at the ACC Championships.
- Pitt recorded its first win at the ACC Championships a year ago when it outlasted Boston College in the first round. The Panthers advanced, but fell to Syracuse to end the season.
CLOSING THE DOORS
- The University of Pittsburgh Director of Athletics Heather Lyke announced Jan. 10, 2019 that women's tennis will be discontinued as an intercollegiate athletics program at the conclusion of the 2019 season.
A LOOK AT THE FIELD
- North Carolina enters the ACC Championships as the No. 1 see, while Duke is No. 2.
- In the event of a Pitt win, the team would face seventh-seeded Virginia Thursday, April 18 at 5 p.m.
- The championship match is slated for Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
