Panthers Fall to Notre Dame in ACC Championships
CARY, N.C. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team played its final match in program history Wednesday afternoon at Cary Tennis Park. The Panthers fell to Notre Dame, 4-1, in the opening round of the ACC Championships.
The Panthers finish the season 4-18 overall and 0-14 in ACC play.
"I'm so proud of the way this team represented this program, athletic department and University," said head coach Alex Santos. "There are no words to describe how classy, resilient, and passionate these girls were throughout the entire season. I know that they will have bright futures ahead of them. In my name and in the name of the entire staff, I just want them to know that we feel blessed in having coached them, and that the relationships we built are for life."
The Irish earned the early advantage, clinching the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 3. However, the Panthers put up a fight as they fell on court three, 5-7, and were tied 6-6 on court two before play was suspended.
