Pitt Returns to Wexford Friday, March 22 to Host Virginia
DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team was blanked by No. 3 Duke Sunday afternoon at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 4-10 on the year with a 0-7record against ACC foes. The Blue Devils improve to 13-2 and 5-1 in conference play.
"We played a team better than us and when that is the case, you have to shake hands and congratulate the opponent," said head coach Alex Santos. "We fought, we competed, and we stayed positive. But, against a top program like Duke, the windows of opportunity to get into the match are very small."
Duke earned the early advantage, clinching the doubles point after collecting back-to-back wins on courts one and three. Both Pitt doubles teams suffered 6-0 losses.
Moving to singles, the Blue Devils recorded straight-set wins on all courts en route to the 7-0 victory.
The Panthers resume action Friday, March 22 when they host Virginia at 3 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club.
