Panthers Host Two Opponents This Weekend
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team will meet Youngstown State Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club before returning on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 12 p.m. to host Notre Dame in ACC action.

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt dropped their first match of the season to Penn State Friday, Jan. 18, 6-1.
- Despite suffering a loss as a team, the Panthers earned two wins, one in doubles and the other in singles. The senior doubles team Natsumi Okamoto and Luisa Varon evened the doubles matches with a win prior to Penn State clinching the doubles point. Varon also captured a win at No. 2 singles.
- The Panthers' second match of the season against Akron on Sunday, Jan. 20 was postponed due to inclement weather.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: PENGUINS
- Youngstown State opens the 2019 season this weekend.
- The Penguins concluded the 2017-18 season 16-11 overall, with an 8-1 mark in conference play.
- YSU found success in postseason play a year ago, capturing the Horizon League Title and earning a trip to the NCAA Regionals where they fell to Florida, 4-0.
- The two non-conference foes last met a year ago in Pitt's season opener in Wexford. The Panthers downed the Penguins, 6-1.
SCOUTING THE OPPNONENT: FIGHTING IRISH
- Notre Dame makes the trip to Wexford with a 2-0 record to open the season.
- The Irish downed their first two opponents of the year in Western Michigan, Jan. 18, 7-0, and Bowling Green, Jan. 23, 7-0.
- Notre Dame finished the 2018 season 11-15 overall with a 2-12 mark in conference play.
- In their last meeting a year ago, the Irish defeated the Panthers, 4-0, in South Bend, Ind.
BARTOLOME IN THE RANKINGS
- Sophomore Claudia Bartolome enters the spring season ranked No. 76 in the Oracle/ITA National Division I Singles Rankings, which were released Nov. 14.
- The singles ranking in the highest in program history. Prior to Bartolome's ranking, the highest Pitt singles ranking was achieved by Audrey Ann Blakely March 22, 2016 when she checked in at No. 85.
- Bartolome concluded the fall campaign 6-5 overall in singles and captured three-straight wins at the Brown Classic at the beginning of November.
- The Torredembarra, Spain, native owns a 26-17 career record after finishing her freshman campaign 20-11 overall with a team-best 14-6 mark in duals.
A LOOK AT 2019
- The Panthers will host 12 opponents at their home site, Oxford Athletic Club, in Wexford, Pa., with half being NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago.
- Pitt's schedule features 21 total matches, 14 of which are teams that finished in the top 75 of the final Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings in May 2018.
- The Panthers roster features four veterans in seniors Clara Lucas, Natsumi Okamoto, Gabriela Rezende and Luisa Varon. Three underclassmen round out the roster in sophomores Claudia Bartolome and Camila Moreno, and freshman Mariona Perez Noguera.
- This will be the final season for Pitt women's tennis, as announced Jan. 10, 2019.

- The Panthers will remain home for the next two matches, hosting Delaware Saturday, Feb. 2, and West Virginia Sunday, Feb. 3.
