Pitt Opens ACC Championships with Boston College Wednesday

Panthers Face Eagles at 9 a.m. in Opening Round
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team is set to open the 2018 ACC Women's Tennis Championships Wednesday, April 25 with Boston College at 9 a.m. at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The 15th-seeded Panthers enter the championships 6-15 overall, while the Eagles head to North Carolina as the No. 10 seed with a 13-10 overall record.
THE SERIES
- Wednesday marks the second meeting this season and the eighth overall between Pitt and Boston College, with the Eagles leading the series 6-0.
- The two last met April 1, 2018 in Pittsburgh as the Panthers dropped a 5-2 decision to the then-ranked 50th visiting team.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt concluded the regular season on the road in the state of North Carolina over the weekend, facing No. 33 NC State and No. 1 North Carolina.
- The Panthers first fell to the Wolfpack, Friday, April 20, 6-1, before making the short trip to Chapel Hill, where they fell by the same score on Sunday.
- The highlight of the weekend came on Sunday in doubles as senior Callie Frey and freshman Camila Moreno knocked off the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the country.

- The Pitt doubles team of Frey and Moreno jumped from No. 77 to No. 40 in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings, announced Tuesday afternoon.
- The ranking is the highest in program history.
- Frey and Moreno jumped into the top 40 after defeating their highest ranked opponent in No. 1 Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham of North Carolina, handing the top-ranked doubles team just their sixth loss of the year.
- The win was the tandems third over a ranked opponent this year, as they previously defeated No. 12 Rosie Johanson and Meghan Kelley of Virginia (March 25) and No. 61 Victoria Flores and Ida Jarlskog of Duke (April 13).
- Frey and Moreno finish the regular season 12-7 overall with a 9-4 mark in duals this spring.

- Duke clinched the top seed for the 2018 ACC Championship and opens action Friday. The Blue Devils take on the winner of Thursday's second-round match between No. 8 NC State and No. 9 Clemson.
- Wednesday's first-round action will start with No. 12 Louisville facing No. 13 Virginia Tech at 9 a.m., No. 10 Boston College matching up against No. 15 Pitt at 9 a.m., and No. 11 Wake Forest taking on No. 14 Notre Dame in an 11:30 a.m. match.
- The NC State/Clemson second-round match opens the slate on Thursday at 9 a.m., along with No. 5 Florida State awaiting the winner of Louisville/Virginia Tech.
