Pitt Concludes Regular Season at No. 33 NC State, No. 1 North Carolina

Panthers End Regular Season in State of North Carolina
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team concludes regular season action this weekend with a trip to the state of North Carolina. The Panthers first travel to Raleigh, Friday, April 13 to take on No. 33 NC State before making the short trip to Chapel Hill to face the No. 1 Tar Heels, Sunday, April 15.
The Panthers (6-13, 0-12 ACC) and the 33rd ranked Wolfpack (15-12, 6-6 ACC) will face off at 3 p.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center Friday. Sunday, Pitt will battle the top-ranked Tar Heels (22-2, 11-1 ACC) at 1 p.m. and will be the final dual of the regular season.
THE SERIES
- Friday marks the fifth time the Panthers and NC State will face off, as the Wolfpack lead the series, 4-0.
- The last time the Panthers faced NC State they fell 6-1 in 2017 as NC State was ranked No. 26 at the time.
- Sunday will be the fifth time Pitt will take on North Carolina, with the Tar Heels leading the series 4-0.
- North Carolina won the last match against the Panthers 7-0 in 2017.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt dropped both matches last weekend to then-ranked No. 2 Georgia Tech, 6-1, Friday, April 13, and 7-0, Sunday, April 15, to No. 4 Duke at the Oxford Athletic Club.
- The Panthers clinched the doubles point against the second-ranked Yellow Jackets for their second consecutive ACC doubles point.
- The point came after the Pitt doubles team of senior Callie Frey and freshman Camila Moreno collected their second win over a ranked opponent.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- NC State enters the weekend ranked 33rd in the nation with a 15-12 overall record and a 6-6 record in the ACC this season.
- In their last time out, the Wolfpack split two matches Sunday, April 15, coming up short 5-2 to then-ranked No. 21 Virginia, before coming out victorious, 4-3, against Winthrop.
- NC State is led by sophomore Anna Rogers who is ranked 87th with an overall record of 15-17 and is 12-13 at the No. 1 spot in singles.
- Sophomore Adriana Reami is also in the rankings, checking in at No. 94, with an overall record of 23-11 and is 16-7 at the No. 2 spot.
- The doubles team of Rogers and junior Claudia Wiktorin are ranked 25th in the nation and are 24-10 overall record this season and 13-6 at the No. 1 spot.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
- No. 1 North Carolina boasts an overall record of 22-2 overall and 11-1 in ACC play.
- In their last time out a week ago, the Tar Heels defeated both opponents with a 7-0 win over No. 21 Virginia, Friday, April 13, then adding another 7-0 victory over to No. 48 Clemson, Sunday, April 15.
- Six North Carolina players can be found in the top 125 singles rankings, however, checking in the highest is No. 11 Makenna Jones with a 28-4 overall record. Behind her is freshman Alle Sanford (No. 24), sophomore Sara Daavettila (No. 40), junior Jessie Aney (No. 82), sophomore Alexa Graham (No. 83) and junior Chloe Ouellet-Pizer (No. 117).
- Two Tar Heel doubles teams are also ranked this week in No. 1 Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham. The pair is 24-5 overall with a 15-2 mark at the No. 1 position.
- Alle Sanford and Sara Daavettila are also ranked in doubles for North Carolina at No. 23 with an overall record of 18-6 and is 12-3 at the No. 2 spot.
PANTHERS IN THE POLLS
- The Pitt doubles team of senior Callie Frey and freshman Camila Moreno check in at No. 77 in this week's Oracle/ITA Tennis Rankings.
- The pair previously ranked No. 87 and moved up in the rankings after defeating No. 61 Victoria Flores and Ida Jarlskog of Georgia Tech, Friday, April 13.
- Earlier this season, Frey and Moreno defeated the then-ranked No. 12 doubles team of Rosie Johanson and Meghan Kelley of Virginia.
