
Pitt Falls to No. 2 Georgia Tech

Panthers Conclude Home Campaign Sunday, April 15
WEXFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team fell to No. 2 Georgia Tech Friday afternoon, 6-1, at the Oxford Athletic Club.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 6-12 overall and 0-11 against ACC foes, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 17-4 on the year and 9-2 in conference play.
Despite suffering a loss, Pitt clinched its second consecutive ACC doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The 87th-ranked doubles team of senior Callie Frey and freshman Camila Moreno cruised to a 6-2 win over No. 61 Victoria Flores and Ida Jarlskog on court one. The win is their 11th of the season and their second over a ranked opponent.
The Panthers clinched the doubles point thanks to a clutch performance by junior Clara Lucas and freshman Claudia Bartolome on court two. The pair recorded a 6-3 win over Johnnise Renaud and Nami Otsuka for their second consecutive doubles-clinching win.
Moving to singles, Georgia Tech jumped to a 3-1 lead in the dual after collecting straight-set wins on courts one, two and three.
The Yellow Jackets then captured wins on the remaining three courts, however, the Panthers didn't go down easy.
Okamoto, playing at the No. 4 spot, fell in the tiebreaker, 7-4, and nearly forced a third set but fell 7-5.
Lucas also had a great showing in the second set after falling in the first. The junior dropped the tiebreaker, 7-2.
Frey was the last Panther to conclude action, as she also fell in a second set tiebreaker. The Pittsburgh native dropped the first set 6-2, and fell 8-6 in the tiebreaker.
The Panthers conclude their home campaign Sunday, April 15 at 11 a.m. as the host the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils at the Oxford Athletic Club.
