Panthers Conclude Home Season with Georgia Tech, Duke

Pitt Hosts No. 2 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Duke This Weekend
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team is set to host No. 2 Georgia Tech, Friday, April 13, before facing No. 4 Duke, Sunday, April 15 in the last home duals of the season this weekend.
The Panthers (6-11, 0-10 ACC) and second-ranked Yellow Jackets (16-4, 8-2 ACC) will square off at 4 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club Friday. Sunday's dual against the fourth-ranked Blue Devils (17-2, 9-1 ACC) is slated to begin at 11 a.m. and will be the last home dual of the season.
THE SERIES
- Friday marks the fifth time Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech will face off, as the Yellow Jackets lead the series, 4-0.
- The last time the Panthers faced Georgia Tech they fell 4-0 in 2017.
- Sunday will be the fifth time Pitt will take on Duke, with the Blue Devils leading the series 4-0.
- Duke won the last match against the Panthers 7-0 in 2017.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt fell short in a close match to then ranked No. 45 Clemson, 4-3, Friday, April 6, at the Oxford Athletic Club.
- The Panthers clinched the doubles point after back-to-back wins on courts two and three.
- Moving to singles, the Tigers claimed the first two singles matches on courts three and two to take a 2-1 lead.
- Freshman Claudia Bartolome tied up the match 2-2 after taking down Sydney Riley 6-4, 6-3.
- Junior Natsumi Okamoto added one more point for the Panthers, but it wouldn't be enough as Clemson tacked on two more single wins to secure the match 4-3.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
- No. 2 Georgia Tech enters the weekend 16-4 overall with an 8-2 record in the ACC this season.
- In their last time out, the Yellow Jackets defeated No. 3 Duke, 4-2, Friday, April 6, followed by defeating No. 27 Wake Forest, 6-1, Sunday, April 8.
- Georgia Tech is led by senior Paige Hourigan with an overall 11-7 record and 8-7 at the No. 1 spot in singles. Hourigan is the 12th-ranked singles player in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings.
- Sophomore Kenya Jones has an overall record of 16-2 and is 4-0 at the No. 2 spot. Jones is the 74th ranked singles player in the latest Oravle/ITA Rankings.
- The Yellow Jackets doubles team of Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones are the number one ranked doubles team in the nation with an overall record of 18-6 and an 11-4 record at the No. 1 spot.
- Freshman Victoria Flores and Freshman Ida Jarlskog are ranked 61st with a 5-2 overall record and 4-0 at the No. 2 spot.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
- No. 4 Duke will travel to Pittsburgh with an overall record of 17-2 overall and 9-1 in ACC play.
- In their last time out, the Blue Devils fell to No. 4 Georgia Tech, 4-2, Friday, April 6, then defeating No. 45 Clemson, 7-0, Sunday April 8.
- Duke is led by senior Samantha Harris, who ranks fifth in the nation in singles with a 11-3 record at the No. 1 spot.
- Freshman Kelly Chen is ranked No. 28 in the nation in singles with a 30-7 overall record and an 11-3 record at the No. 3 spot.
- The Blue Devil's sophomore Meible Chi is ranked No. 78 in singles with a 28-3 overall record, 7-0 both at the No. 2 spot and No. 5 spot.
- Juniors Kaitlyn McCarthy and Ellyse Hamlin are both ranked in singles with McCarthy at No. 91 and Hamlin at No. 111. McCarthy is 20-9 overall, 5-1 at the No. 2 spot, where Hamlin is 22-5 overall, 10-1 at the No. 5 spot.
- Harris and Chen are 19-6 overall in doubles this season ranked sixth in the nation.
- Duke's junior doubles team of Hamlin and McCarthy are 21-5 overall, 9-2 at the No. 2 spot are ranked eighth in the nation.
SUNDAY SENIOR DAY
- Senior Callie Frey will be recognized prior to the beginning of Sunday's dual.
- Frey has an overall record this season of 15-12 and is 6-3 at the No. 5 spot.
- Frey and freshman Camila Moreno are ranked No. 87 in doubles this season with a record an overall record of 10-7 and are 2-2 at the No. 1 spot.
- Frey has spent four years with the Panthers as she will play in her last home dual against No. 4 Duke on Sunday.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt will travel to North Carolina, Friday, April 20 as they take on NC State at 3 p.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The Panthers round out the weekend and the season facing No. 1 North Carolina, Sunday, April 22 at 1 p.m at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
