Panthers Return Home to Host Morgan State Saturday

Pitt to Face Final Non-Conference Foe of the Season
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team returns to Pittsburgh to host its final non-conference foe of the season in Morgan State Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club.
The Panthers enter the weekend 5-5 overall this year, while the Bears are 1-5 overall.
THE SERIES
- This will be the second meeting between the Panthers and the Bears, as Pitt leads the all-time series 1-0.
- Pitt came out on top the last time the two teams met, earning a 7-0 victory March 11, 2016.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers dropped both of their matches last weekend in Florida, falling to Miami and No. 23 Florida State.
- Pitt first dropped a 4-0 decision after the Hurricanes clinched the doubles point and claimed two singles matches to secure the dual victory.
- The Panthers then dropped their second match of the weekend, falling to No. 23 Florida State, 7-0, after the Seminoles secured the doubles point and added on six singles victories.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
- In their last time out, the Bears dropped a 6-1 decision to Navy, March 3 in Annapolis, Md.
- Morgan State's lone win of the year came against La Salle, Jan. 20, as the Bears posted a 6-1 victory.
- Morgan State finished last season 8-16 overall and 4-2 mark in the MEAC. The Bears concluded the season with a loss to Hampton in the semifinals of the MEAC Tournament.
FREY AT FIVE
- The Panthers are led this season by senior veteran Callie Frey with a 13-7 singles record, including a 7-2 dual mark this spring.
- Frey has found success at the No. 5 position, posting a 5-1 record.
- The Pittsburgh native won seven consecutive singles matches during the span of Jan. 20-Feb. 18.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt will host No. 10 Wake Forest Friday, March 16 at the Oxford Athletic Club.
- The Panthers will then continue ACC play as they travel to Virginia to take on Virginia Tech March 23 at 3 p.m. before facing Virginia March 25 at 12 p.m.
