Pitt opens ACC play Sunday versus Louisville
PITTSBURGH -The University of Pittsburgh tennis team (3-1) resumes this weekend as it faces Eastern Michigan Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m., before opening up ACC play against Louisville Sunday, Feb. 11 at 12 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club.
THE SERIES
- Saturday marks the third matchup between the Panthers and the Eagles with the series tied 1-1.
- Sunday's match against Louisville opens ACC play for both teams and is the fourth meeting as the Cards lead the series 3-1.
- Pitt's last win over Louisville came in 2015 as the Panthers earned their first ACC win in program history 5-2.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt split last weekend, taking down Bowling Green, 5-2, before falling to VCU the following day, 4-2.
- The Panthers clinched the doubles point against Bowling Green thanks to wins from senior Callie Frey and freshman Camila Moreno, followed by a win from the junior tandem of Natsumi Okamoto and Clara Lucas.
- Pitt then tallied four singles wins coming from Frey, Okamoto, junior Luisa Varon and freshman Claudia Bartolome to secure the victory over the Falcons.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Eastern Michigan comes to Pittsburgh with an overall record of 2-2 after falling to Nebraska in their last time out.
- The Eagles are led by the senior doubles pair of Andrea Martinovska and Ani Gogvadze, as they are 2-0 on the season.
- Last season, EMU finished 6-16 overall with a 1-7 record in the MAC.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
- Louisville enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-1.
- In the Cardinals latest dual they came up short against Tulsa falling 4-3 to the Hurricanes.
- Louisville went 15-13 last season with a 3-11 record in ACC play.
A LOOK AT THE PANTHERS
- The Panthers are led this season by senior veteran Callie Frey from Pittsburgh, Pa., who is undefeated in duals singles this season with a record of 4-0.
- Pitt has welcomed three new faces to the squad this season in junior transfer Luisa Varon and freshmen Claudia Bartolome and Camila Moreno. All three have played an integral role in the Panthers' lineup thus far.
- The Panthers' roster features student-athletes from all over the world, including Pittsburgh, Spain, Cyprus, Argentina, Japan, Brazil and Venezuela.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers host in-state rival Penn State Sunday Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club.
