No. 21 Pitt Women’s Soccer Defends Our City with a 6-1 Takedown Against Duquesne

PITTSBURGH – The No. 21 Pitt women's soccer team defeated the Duquesne Dukes Thursday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field in front of 939 fans with a 6-1 takedown. Tonight's win was head coach Randy Waldrum's 50th win at Pitt and 450 overall win of her career.
The Panthers set the scene for the evening with goal by fifth-year Amanda West just after the five-minute mark. West's goal was assisted by Sarah Schupansky and Ashley Moon. However, West wasn't done scoring points for the evening. In the 23rd minute, West found the back of the net to score her second goal of the night off of Landy Mertz's clean assist.
Duquesne secured their only goal of the night in the 28th minute off of a corner kick. Pitt went into halftime with the 2-1 lead, but the Panthers knew they wanted more after that half.
Freshman Deborah Abiodun made a quick turn off of Schupanksy's corner kick, launching the ball to score her first goal of the night. Almost exactly two-minutes later, Samiah Phiri secured a goal off of another swift assist from Mertz.
The Panthers continued their momentum into the 64th minute where Abiodun completed her second goal of the night. Abiodun's goal was assisted by both Keera Melenhorst and Phiri. The freshman now has seven points in her collegiate career. To top the night off, Anna Bout found the top center of the net to score a goal off of Mackenzie Evers and Evie Craven's assists. This was Evers and Craven's first point of the season and Craven's first of her collegiate career.
The Panthers didn't just lead the night in goals. Pitt had 30-5 shots, 15-3 shots on goal, and 14-3 corner kicks.

The Panthers will remain at home as they welcome Bowling Green to Ambrose Urbanic Field on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 4 PM for Senior Night.
