Pitt Women’s Soccer Remains Undefeated After 5-1 Win Against Bowling Green

PITTSBURGH – The No. 21 Pitt Panthers continue their season undefeated after dominating the pitch against Bowling Green. The Panthers topped the Falcons with a 5-1-win, Sunday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field during Senior Night.
The Panthers recognized Chloe Minas tonight in the Senior Night celebration as the only senior on Pitt's roster.
Pitt scored first tonight in the 12th minute when fifth-year Ashton Gordon headed the ball off of Sarah Schupansky clean cross in her corner kick. The Panthers continued to hold up a strong wall to the Falcons up to the half. Pitt went into the locker room leaving Bowling Green scoreless with the 1-0 lead.
The Panthers carried their momentum into the second half. In the 55th minute, Schupansky secured her first goal of the night off of a penalty kick. This was Schupansky's sixth goal of the season. Just under three minutes later, Landy Mertz went for the assist as she found Keera Melenhorst to complete the goal.
The Falcons scored their only goal of the night just before the 61st minute.
Pitt continued to hold the majority of possession, but they knew they weren't done scoring points for the night. Fifth year Amanda West found an opening and launched the ball to the center top of the net to score a goal off of Samiah Phiri's assist. This was West's fifth goal on the season. The Panthers finished tonight's game with their fifth goal with just 50 seconds left on the clock. Gordon sent the ball down the field to Lucia Wells who fed the ball to Schupansky to complete her second goal of the evening.
The Panthers didn't just dominate the evening in goals. Pitt held strong against Bowling Green with 29-6 shots, 11-5 shots on goal and 5-1 corner kicks.
UP NEXT
Pitt will begin their four-game road journey in Cincinnati, OH where they will meet No. 25 Xavier on Sept. 7 with a 7 PM first kick.
