Panthers Host Virginia For 16th Annual Pink The Pete Game Sunday Afternoon

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (7-15, 0-11 ACC) returns home Sunday afternoon for a very special game as they welcome the Virginia Cavaliers for their 16th Annual Pink The Pete game to raise awareness for those affected by breast cancer. Sunday's game will air live on ACC Network at 2:00 pm from inside the Pete.

- The Panthers will be raising awareness for breast cancer Sunday afternoon as they host their 16th Annual Pink The Pete game at 2pm.
- The first 1,500 fans in attendance Sunday will receive a Pitt Pink The Pete t-shirt.
- Breast cancer survivors will be honored with the starting lineups as well as at halftime of the game.
- Facts and resources to help with raising the awareness of breast cancer will also be featured throughout the game on the videoboard.

- Senior Amber Brown is on a roll for Pitt as she has scored in double figures in nine of her past 11 games. Over that stretch, Brown is averaging a team-high 12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 50.5% from the floor. Brown is closing in on 1000 career points as she has 927 in her career.
- Junior Liatu King is enjoying the best season of her career as she is averaging a career-high 10.0 points and 7.6 rebounds while shooting 41.0% from the floor. King ranks 5th in the ACC in rebounds (7.6 rpg) and T-7th in blocks (1.5 bpg).
- The Panthers return home for their 16th Annual Pink The Pete Game Sunday at 2pm as they welcome Virginia. Sunday's game will air on ACC Network.
- Senior captain Dayshanette Harris became the 20th member of the Panthers' 1,000-point club last week. She is the first Panther since 2018 (Yacine Diop) to net her 1,000th career point. Harris is also the first Panther since Brianna Kiesel (2011-15) to record 1000+ points, 300+ rebounds and 250+ assists in a career.
- Senior guard Emy Hayford earned her seventh start of the season last time out at Duke and she responded with a season-high 12 points, two assists and two steals in the road loss.
- This meeting marks the 12th between the two programs with Virginia owning the slim 6-5 edge in the series.
- The Cavaliers have won four straight in the all-time series including a 74-65 home victory over Pitt last season.
- The Panthers are 3-2 all-time against the Cavaliers at the Petersen Events Center.
- The Virginia Cavaliers enter Sunday's game with a 14-9 overall record and a 3-9 ACC mark. The Cavaliers have lost five straight including a 73-62 road loss at North Carolina on Thursday.
- The Cavaliers are being led offensively by Camryn Taylor who is averaging 13.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals while shooting 47% from the floor. Sam Brunelle is enjoying a strong season as she is averaging 11.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while connecting on a team-high 34 triples.
- Point guard Taylor Valladay is averaging 9.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and a team-high 3.5 assists.
- As a team, the Cavaliers are averaging 71.1 points per game while allowing just 62.1 points against per contest. Virginia is outrebounding their opponents 42.8 to 35.0 so far this season.
- Sunday's game will mark the 16th annual Pink The Pete game for Pitt. It's the annual breast cancer awareness game for the Panthers as everyone in the building will be encouraged to wear pink.
- Breast cancer survivors will be honored throughout the contest as the first 1,500 fans will also receive a Pink The Pete t-shirt. Survivors will join the Pitt starting five and will be honored during a halftime ceremony.
- Pitt owns a 4-11 record all-time in their Pink The Pete games as they have hosted seven nationally-ranked opponents in those contests.
- Pitt fell last year in their Pink The Pete game to Syracuse, 67-65.
- The Panthers' record attendance for Pink The Pete was 6,443 against Cincinnati in 2009.
- Average attendance for Pink The Pete games inside the Petersen Events Center is 3,776 excluding the 2021 season during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
