Pitt Falls to Drexel in Home Opener, 68-60

PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women's basketball team dropped its home opener Tuesday night, falling 68-60 to Drexel inside the Petersen Events Center.
Mikayla Johnson paced the Panthers with a team-high 19 points, while Angel Jones added 10. Fatima Diakhate led the rebounding effort with eight boards.
Four Panthers earned their first starts in a Pitt uniform. Johnson was joined by transfers Jones and Diakhate, along with Jayda Queeley and Megan Hollingsworth, who also made their first collegiate starts.
How It Happened
Six different Panthers found the score sheet in the opening quarter as Pitt took a 14-12 lead after 10 minutes. Drexel responded in the second frame, outscoring the Panthers 18-13, to take a three-point advantage into halftime.
Pitt surged back in the third quarter, posting 22 points to even the score at 49 heading into the final period. The teams traded baskets down the stretch before a late Drexel three-pointer pushed the Dragons ahead by five. Drexel went 3-of-4 from the free throw line in the final 21 seconds close out the win.
