Pitt Primed for Final Preseason Test; Hosts Lock Haven Thursday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team wraps up its exhibition slate Thursday evening, welcoming Lock Haven to the Petersen Events Center for its final tune-up before the 2025-26 season opener.

The Opening Tip
- The Panthers are coming off a 101-46 exhibition victory over Pitt-Johnstown on Sunday.
- Junior transfer Carla Viegas powered the Panthers in the second half, scoring 11 of her team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter.
- She went 5-for-6 from three-point range, knocking down back-to-back triples to cap her performance.
- Nylah Wilson added 15 points and led the team with four assists, while Mikayla Johnson also chipped in 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.
- Six freshmen saw the floor, with Megan Hollingsworth and Jayda Queeley earning starts. Hollingsworth led the team with nine rebounds, while Queeley contributed eight points, four boards and four assists.
- Off the bench, Theresa Hagans Jr. reached double figures with 10 points and two assists.
- Junior transfer Carla Viegas powered the Panthers in the second half, scoring 11 of her team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter.
- Four players return from last year's roster, led by Johnson, who averaged 10.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
- Last season featured several highlights for the Panthers, including the largest regulation comeback in NCAA history against SMU (Jan. 12).
- Pitt also posted its highest win total (13) since 2016-17 and recorded its second-most ACC victories (5) since joining the league.
- The 2025-26 roster features seven freshmen, headlined by ESPNW HoopGurlz Top 100 recruits Wilson (No. 30, five-star) and Hagans Jr. (No. 99, four-star).
- Pitt also welcomed three transfers this offseason: Viegas (Florida State), Fatima Diakhate (Georgia) and Angel Jones (Coppin State).
