PITTSBURGH – Senior guard Angel Jones scored a game-high 23 points on 11-of-13 shooting as the Pitt women's basketball team rolled past Lock Haven, 98-58, in its exhibition finale Thursday evening at the Petersen Events Center.
Jones added four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Redshirt junior Mikayla Johnson notched a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while junior guard Carla Viegas and freshman guard Theresa Hagans Jr. also finished in double figures. Viegas led all players from deep, connecting on 4-of-7 three-point attempts.
How It Happened
After Lock Haven scored the game's first basket, Pitt answered with a quick 6-0 run fueled by layups from redshirt junior forward Fatima Diakhate and freshman guard Megan Hollingsworth to take control early. The Panthers used balanced scoring throughout the opening period to build a 23-17 lead after 10 minutes.
Jones caught fire in the second quarter, netting 11 of her game-high 23 points as Pitt stretched its lead to 51-29 at halftime behind a dominant 28-12 frame. The Panthers opened the third with a 9-0 run, sparked by back-to-back layups from Johnson and Diakhate, to push the margin past 25.
Lock Haven briefly cut into the deficit, but Pitt continued to roll in transition and closed the game with a 16-2 run in the fourth quarter. The Panthers maintained their momentum the rest of the way, comfortably controlling the pace on both ends to seal the 98–58 victory.
