Walker Breaks Hammer School Record; 10 Panthers Notch Top-10 Program Marks at Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Pitt track and field teams wrapped up their best weekend of the outdoor season on Saturday evening at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville. The Panthers capped their weekend with one school record, 10 top-10 all-time marks and 10 top-5 finishes on the impressive weekend.
Senior Noah Walker opened up action for the Panthers on Thursday night with a huge personal record and school record throw in the hammer. Walker broke his own school record by over six feet as he notched a throw that traveled 218' (66.64m) to secure third place overall and second among collegiate throwers. His throw currently sits in third in the ACC and 13th in the east region so far this season in the event.
The Panthers closed out the meet with one of their best performances of the weekend as the men's 4x400m relay team collected their first win of the outdoor season with a season-best time. The quartet of Felix Wolter, Ade Jones-Roundtree, Cobe Wiggins and Lonzell Feagin crossed the finish line first in 3:07.40 which marked the seventh fastest time in program history in the event and the third fastest so far this season in the ACC in the event.
Making her first career appearance in the women's heptathlon, sophomore Ilse Steigenga had a performance to remember as she took home fourth place with a personal record score of 4897 points. Her total marked the seventh best in program history and the ninth best in the ACC this season. She was able to secure five PR's in the seven events
Pitt's jump crew had a big weekend in Virginia as they were able to post six season-best leaps and three top-10 all-time marks. In the men's long jump, the Panthers had three season-best efforts by their three competitors as Wolter led the way with a personal best leap of 25'3.25" (7.70m) to secure fifth place. His leap marked the third best in program history and the eighth best in the ACC this year. Senior Kollin Smith also notched a season-best leap to secure seventh place as he posted a jump of 24'11" (7.59m) while Clement Campbell had a wind-aided (+2.3) season-best jump of 24'6.25" (7.47m). Campbell also posted a wind-aided (+2.7) personal record jump of 48'6.75" (14.80m) in the long jump. His second attempt was wind-legal and he cleared 48'5.50" (14.77m) which marks the 10th best distance in program history in the event.
On Saturday, the high jump duo of Lydia Bottelier and Greg Lauray were both able to secure top-3 finishes in the high jump. Bottelier tied for second place as she cleared a personal record height of 5'9.50" (1.76m), the third best jump in program history in the event and currently the sixth best in the ACC this year. Lauray cleared a season-best height of 6'11.75" (2.13m) to finish in third place in the talented field.
The throws squad on Saturday had a pair of strong showings as Abena Atuobi was able to post a fifth place finish in the shot put with a personal record throw. The senior had a career-best throw of 52'2.50" (15.91m) which marked the third best in program history and the seventh best this season in the ACC. In the discus, Walker posted a season-best distance of 180'11" (55.15m) to secure the seventh place finish. His distance marked the ninth best so far this season in the ACC.
Senior Tyler Rollins capped Friday nights action with a big time performance in the 5000m run as he was able to secure a second place finish in the field of 26 runners. Rollins crossed the finish line with a huge personal record time of 14:14.44 which marked the seventh fastest in program history in the event.
The men's 4x100m squad of Campbell, Feagin, Smith and Hussey were able to post a season-best time of 40.98 seconds which marked the 10th fastest time in the event in program history and the sixth best so far this season in the ACC.
Elsewhere on the track, Campbell posted an impressive time of 10.64 seconds in the 100m dash on Friday afternoon which is tied for the ninth fastest in program history in the event. senior Crockett Schooler was able to post a season-best time of 53.30 seconds in the 400m hurdles as he secured the fourth place finish in the talented field. In the 400m dash, Jones-Roundtree took fourth place in 47.13 seconds while Feagin finished in sixth place in 47.40 seconds.
