Pitt Poised To Make Noise At ACC Outdoor Championships In Raleigh

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh track and field team will begin the postseason portion of their scheduled this week as they travel south to Raleigh, NC to compete in the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility. The three-day conference championship meet will be hosted by NC State and will run from Thursday until Saturday evening.

The meet will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra each day beginning at 2:00 pm. Links for each day's stream are below.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Action will begin at Paul Derr Track & Field Facility at 11:00 am on Thursday with the men's javelin followed by the women's pole vault at 12:00 pm.
Track events will begin at 6:00 pm with the women's 400m hurdles and conclude at 8:50 pm with the men's 10,000m run on Thursday night.
The women's javelin will open up Friday action at 11:00 am followed by the men's shot put at 2:00 pm
Friday's track action will begin at 6:00 pm with the women's 100m hurdles prelims and conclude at 8:50 pm with the men's 3000m steeplechase.
The final day of competition will begin at 2:00 pm with the men's discus and women's high jump and conclude at 8:40 pm with the men's 4x400m relay.

WHAT'S ON THE LINE

Medalists (top three) in each individual event will earn All-ACC first team honors. Student-athletes placing fourth through sixth in each individual event will comprise the second team.
Members of each winning relay team will be designated All-ACC first team. Members of each second and third place relay team will earn All-ACC second team honors.

LAST ACC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP MEET (2019)

The Pitt men posted a program-best fourth place finish with a program record 62 points as they placed three on the podium (top-3 finish).
Greg Lauray (High Jump, Nate Sloan (1500m), Daveon Finley (110m Hurdles) each posted second place finishes to earn First Team All-ACC honors.
In all, the Panther had a program record 17 student-athletes earn All-ACC recognition with three first team honorees and 14 second team members. Three Panthers including Crockett Schooler earned second team honors in two events (110m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles).
On the women's side, the most impressive performance of the meet came in the pouring rain as the 4x400m relay quartet of Townsend, Crawford, Flora Ahiarakwe and Nikki Scherer took home the silver medal and Second Team All-ACC honors with a season-best time of 3:38.18.

UP NEXT

The Panthers will send a group of student-athletes down to Jacksonville, FL for the NCAA East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on May 27-29.
In order to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary round, student-athletes will have to rank inside the top-48 in their respective individual event or inside the top-24 in their respective relay event.
