Panthers Set For Road Test On Sunday At Bucknell

PITTSBURGH – Coming off of an impressive season-opening victory on Friday night at home, the University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team will hit the road on Sunday afternoon to take on the Bucknell Bison at 1:00 pm at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium. Pitt is in search of their third straight 2-0 start to the season as they take on the Bison in their first road test of the 2019 campaign.

- The Panthers hit the road for their first road test of their 2019 campaign on Sunday afternoon as they head to Lewisburg, PA to take on the Bucknell Bison at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium. Both Pitt and Bucknell opened their campaigns with victories.
- The Pitt offense notched their first five-goal contest since 2015, coming-from-behind on three occasions to secure their first win of the 2019 campaign over Loyola Marymount, 5-4.
- Freshman Amanda West burst onto the scene for the Panthers as she netted three goals, an assist and seven points, including the game-winning goal, to secure the season-opening win for Pitt.
- Four Panthers notched multi-point efforts in the victory over Loyola Marymount on Friday night, West (7) , Athalie Palomo (3), Anna Rico (2) and Juliana Vazquez (2). The seven-point effort by West marked a new Ambrose Urbanic Field record by a Pitt player.
- The Bucknell Bison opened their season on Thursday night with a 2-1 overtime victory over Robert Morris on their home turf.
- The Bison received goals from Petie Nessetta and Gabby Bair in the victory while goalkeeper Kaylee Donnelly made two saves in the victory.
- The Bison currently own the 2-1-0 all-time series record over the Panthers.
- Pitt won the last matchup between the two sides on August 30, 2013 when they handed Bucknell a 3-0 defeat at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- Pitt is 0-1-0 all-time on the road against Bucknell.
- The Panthers have been known to have success in season openers over their 23-year existence and that continued on Friday night as the Panthers notched a 5-4 victory over Loyola Marymount. With the win, Pitt now owns a 14-7-3 record in season opening contests.
- Over their last 11 season openers, the Panthers own a 8-0-3 record including winning three straight season opening contests.
- When Pitt opens up their regular season on their home field, they own a dominant 8-0-2 record all-time while outscoring their opponents 23-10 in those contests.
- In their last seven road openers, Pitt owns a 4-2-1 record.
- Freshman forward Amanda West made an immediate impact for the Panthers in her first career game as she netted three goals, one assist and seven points while playing all 90 minutes against Loyola Marymount. She also finished with a game-high five shots including four on frame.
- The hat-trick for West marked the 10th in program history and the first by a Pitt player since 2015. It also marked the second hat-trick in program history by a Panther and the first in program history in a collegiate debut.
- Her seven points are the most in a game for a Pitt player since 2001 and are the third most in program history. The seven-point effort is also the most in Ambrose Urbanic Field history by a Panther.
- Led by West's impressive seven-point effort, the new look Panthers saw three other players' notch multi-point efforts in the win.
- Freshman defender Athalie Palomo had herself a strong debut as she netted the first goal of the game for Pitt on a beautifully placed shot into the upper left corner of the net before finishing off her night with an assist on West's game-winner. Palomo finished her night with three points.
- Sophomore Anna Rico was a threat all night long as she finished with a career-high two assists and two shots in the entertaining victory.
- Senior captain Juliana Vazquez found the back of the net for the first time since her freshman campaign as she finished with two points.
- The Panthers start the 2019 season with 21 new players on the roster, including 17 incoming freshmen and three transfers.
- Junior Hollie Olding (Kentucky) joins Pitt after a pair of impressive seasons with the Wildcats and is joined by sophomores Danielle Maggio (Charleston Southern), and Kate McKay (Elon). Olding, Maggio and McKay combined to net seven goals and two assists a season ago.
- Out of the 17 incoming freshmen, nine are from the state of Pennsylvania, four are international, two are from New Jersey and one player comes from Michigan and Texas.
- Four newcomers to the Pitt squad bring international experience to the roster this season after appearing in matches for their national teams over the past couple of seasons.
- Junior Hollie Olding most recently laced up for the U19 England squad while also helping England advance to the semifinals in the U17 Women's World Cup.
- Incoming freshman Athalie Palomo brings in playing experience with the Mexico U-20 National Team, where she was one of the youngest players on the team that placed 11th overall at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France.
- Freshmen Stefania Tryggvadottir and Margret Arnadottir join the Panthers after stints with the U17 and U19 Icelandic National Teams.
- Pitt will stay on the road for their next two matches as they head to Dartmouth on Friday, August 30 at 7:00 pm and UMass on Sunday, September 1 at 1:00 pm.
