WEXFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Virginia Tech Hokies Friday afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club.
With the loss, the Panthers slide to 4-5 on the year and 0-3 against ACC foes. The Hokies improve to 5-4 overall and earned their first conference win of the season.
Sophomore Claudia Bartolome and senior Gabriela Rezende were the lone Panthers to record wins on the day.
Virginia Tech got on the board first, clinching the doubles point after earning wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. However, Pitt turned in the first doubles win as senior Clara Lucas and sophomore Camila Moreno cruised to a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot. Soon after, the senior tandem of Natsumi Okamoto and Luisa Varon fell 3-6 on court two. The deciding match was tied numerous times, but the Hokies came out on top as Rezende and Bartolome fell 5-7.
In singles, Virginia Tech collected four straight wins to decide the dual, 5-0.
