Pitt Hosts No. 16 Wake Forest Friday

Panthers Face Second Ranked Opponent of 2018
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team is set to host No. 16 Wake Forest Friday, March 16 in conference action at the Oxford Athletic Club.
The Panthers (6-5, 0-5 ACC) and Demon Deacons (12-4, 1-2 ACC) are slated to clash at 4 p.m.
THE SERIES
- Pitt and Wake Forest meet for just the fourth time in program history Friday.
- The Demon Deacons lead the series 3-0, with their last win coming a year ago in a 5-2 decision. Wake Forest was ranked 28th in their last visit to Pittsburgh.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers picked up a 6-1 win Saturday, March 10 over Morgan State.
- Pitt clinched the doubles point and used five singles wins to secure the dual victory.
- The dual was the final non-conference match-up of the year, finishing 6-1.
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACS
- Wake Forest comes to Pittsburgh on a four-match win-streak for a 12-4 overall record.
- In their last time out, the Demon Deacons defeated Winthrop and Liberty in a doubleheader March 11.
- Two doubles teams are ranked in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, released March 6, in No. 31 Emma Davis and Chandler Carter and No. 66 Anna Ulyashchenko and Eliza Omirou.
- Davis/Carter are 12-1 on the year while Ulyashchenko/Omirou are 12-5 overall.
- In singles, two individuals are among the Oracle/ITA rankings in No. 36 Emma Davis and No. 88 Eliza Omirou.
- Davis boasts an impressive 20-7 overall record with a 13-2 mark in dual competition, primarily playing at the No. 1 spot. Omirou, Wake Forest's primary No. 2 player, is 14-10 overall with a 10-4 mark in duals.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers hit the road next weekend for a trip to the state of Virginia, first taking on Virginia Tech Friday, March 23 at 3 p.m. Pitt will then travel to Charlottesville, Va., to face the Cavaliers Sunday, March 25 at 12 p.m.
