Panthers to Race in NCAA Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regional

Pitt Returns to University Park for Regional Meet
PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's and women's cross country teams will visit University Park, Pa., for the third and final time this season to compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Friday at noon.
The women's 6K race is set to begin at 12 p.m., with the men's 10K race to follow at 1 p.m. A recap of the day's races will be posted to PittsburghPanthers.com.

- Set to compete for the women are freshmen Devon Hoernlein and Caelan Miller, sophomores Ally Brunton, Emily Burd, and Mikaela Vlasic, junior Sam Shields and seniors Natalie Hilton, Erin Keelan, Erin O'Connell, Miranda Salvo, Gillian Schriever, and Makenzie Zeh.
- Competing for the men are freshmen Evan Addison, Tyler Rollins and Brian Spolarich, sophomores Josh Higgins and Zach Lefever, juniors Jackson Morton and Nick Wolk and senior Matt McGoey.
WHAT'S ON THE LINE
- Each of the teams and individuals competing will be vying for a spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 17 in Madison, Wisc.
- The top teams from each gender in each region, plus 13 at-large teams from each gender from across the country will qualify for the national championships.
- After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals from each gender will be selected to compete at nationals. A complete breakdown of the qualification process can be found at USTFCCCA.org.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
- Teams competing alongside Pitt on the women's side are American, Bucknell, Delaware, Duquesne, George Washington, Georgetown, La Salle, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola (Md.), Marshall, Maryland, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, New Jersey Institute, Penn, No. 13 Penn State, Princeton, Rider, Rutgers, Saint Francis University, Seton Hall, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Temple, Towson, UMBC, No. 8 Villanova, and West Virginia.
- Men's teams participating will be from American, Bucknell, Duquesne, George Washington, Georgetown, La Salle, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola (Md.), Marshall, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, New Jersey Institute, Penn, Penn State, No. 25 Princeton, Rider, Rutgers, Saint Francis University, Seton Hall, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Temple, UMBC, and Villanova.
LAST TIME OUT
- At the ACC Championship in Boston, Mass. (Oct. 26), junior Sam Shields placed 16th in the women's 6K with a time of 20:54.0, making her the second Pitt athlete to earn a spot on the All-ACC Cross Country team in program history.
- Following Shields, senior Miranda Salvo finished next in 66th (21:58.8) with Natalie Hilton close behind in 86th, at 22:15.2. As a team, the Panthers places 13th in the 6K race with 320 points.
- Junior Nick Wolk was the top finisher for the Panthers, coming in 47th at 24:43.0. Up next were sophomore Zach Lefever and redshirt freshman Brian Spolarich in 67th (24:58.1) and 87th (25:20.2), respectively. Pitt finished the men's 8K in 13th place overall with 358 points.

- Qualifying teams and individuals will compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Saturday, Nov. 17 at noon in Madison, Wisc.
