McMahon Punches Ticket to NCAA Cross Country Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Thomas McMahon will be racing at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships as an individual qualifier after his 8th place performance at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, Friday afternoon. As a team, the Pitt men closed with a 6th place finish and the women with an 8th place finish, respectively.
Thomas McMahon recorded a 10k time of 29:43.8 to punch his ticket to the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Columbia, Mo. on Nov. 22. McMahon is the first qualifier from Pitt since Luke Henseler raced at the meet in 2023. McMahon led the Pitt men to a 6th place team finish at the meet. He was one of 11 athletes in the 201-person field to run the 10k in under 30 minutes. Luke Simpson also delivered for the Panthers, finishing 23rd with a personal best of his own, 30:27.5. Both McMahon and Simpson were named All-Region for their efforts. Damian Frausto was the next finisher, and final Panther to run the course in under 31 minutes. Frausto posted a personal best time of 30:53.4, for 40th place. The Panthers compiled a team total of 173 points.
In her first collegiate cross country season, Maureen Cheruiyot led the Panthers with a personal best 6k time of 20:11.4. Cheruiyot was the first from Pitt to cross the finish line, coming in 24th in the field of 215 student-athletes, and claiming All-Region accolades. Camy Kiser was next from the team, tallying 44th in 21:05.6. Senior Ellen Baker competed in her first race of the season after overcoming an injury, clocking in at 21:13.9, a personal best. The women's team accumulated 261 points.
