Miami Fall Invite Resumes Saturday Morning
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team officially opened the 2017-18 season Friday morning at the Miami Fall Invite. However, due to inclement weather, play was cancelled after approximately 45 minutes of play.
Although play was cancelled, Pitt was able to complete two doubles matches including a win by freshman Claudia Bartolome and senior Callie Frey posted a 6-2 victory over their Miami opponents in doubles.
"It was an exciting day with the official kick-off of our fall schedule," said head coach Alex Santos. "It was great to get on the court with the team and to see Luisa [Varon], Camila [Moreno], and Claudia [Bartolome] in blue and gold for the first time. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate but the little tennis we were able to get in had passion and fight."
The five matches that were left unfinished will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23. Once those doubles matches are concluded, the previously scheduled Saturday doubles matches will begin followed by the previously scheduled Saturday singles matches.
