Panthers Win Three Singles, Two Doubles Matches
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team picked up five total wins in the first day of action at the Harvard Invitational at the Murr Tennis Center.
Three Panthers won their singles matches, while two doubles teams posted wins.
"The good thing about today is that in singles we were competitive on every single court," said head coach Alex Santos. "Tomorrow will be an opportunity to play the big points better and assume the responsibility when adversity kicks in."
In singles, freshman Claudia Bartolome downed her Boston University opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, while junior Luisa Varon took down her BU foe by the same score.
Junior Clara Lucas also outlasted her BU opponent in singles, recording an 8-6 victory.
In doubles action, the tandem of senior Callie Frey and freshman Camila Moreno dominated Iryna Kostirko and Sabrina Faybyshev, 6-1.
The junior team of Lucas and Gabriela Rezende collected a 6-2 win over Emily Kim and Katya Martens of Boston University.
The Panthers return to action Saturday, Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m. when they take on Wisconsin.
