Bartolome Lone Panther Alive in Singles Main Draw
Singles Main Draw | Doubles
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team completed its second day of action at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships Saturday evening on the campus of Virginia Tech.
After a full day of competition, freshman Claudia Bartolome is the lone Panther still alive in the main singles draw.
"We are disappointed with how today went because we all feel that we should have capitalized on the opportunities we had," said head coach Alex Santos. "Adversity is a key ingredient for improvement and today it hurt which will make us rebound bigger and better."
In singles, Bartolome outlasted her singles opponent Risa Nakagawa of Georgetown taking the first set 6-2. However, Bartolome dropped the second 2-6 but bounced back in the third, 6-2. She will take on Maryland's Eva Alexandrova Sunday.
In doubles, the tandem of Bartolome and junior Luisa Varon dropped their match versus Virginia Tech's Daxhelet/Novotna, 8-5. Senior Callie Frey and freshman Camila Moreno also dropped their doubles match, falling to their Maryland opponent Tour/Alexandrova, 8-6.
Action resumes Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
