Women's Tennis Falls To Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J.-The University of Pittsburgh women's tennis team dropped a close 5-2 match 5-2 to Rutgers, this past weekend. Pitt's record slips to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in the Big East.

In singles action, senior Emily Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) battled back from a 6-3 loss in game one to win her match with 6-1 and 6-3 scores in the next two games. Hughes earned her fifth-consecutive win.

Sophomore Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) won her first game 6-3 but dropped a close second game 7-6. Smith ended the contest with a 6-3 win for the Panthers second point of the match.

On the other hand, freshman Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) snapped her four-game singles win streak with a 6-0 and 7-5 loss in games two and three.

Borza teamed with sophomore Leah Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) in doubles action for their fourth-straight victory. As the lone doubles victory, the duo is 10-5.
