Women's Tennis Earns Win Over Bison

Getting Pitt started was the doubles pair of senior Emily Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) and sophomore Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright). Played in the No. 2 spot, Hughes and Smith picked up their second win of the season as a team by defeating the Bison pair with a close score of 8-6.
Junior Annie Davies (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and senior Becky Emmers (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) teamed up in the No. 3 spot and continued their eight-match win streak, as they defeated their opponents at a perfect 8-0 tally.
The Panthers also had a strong showing in singles action, picking up four of the six matches to secure the victory. Freshman Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) started things off with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Bucknell's Veronica Brown.
The next two matches went to the Bison, but Hughes captured a close win in the fourth round of singles. She took the first set 6-4 before dropping a close, second set to Bucknell's Ashely Globerman 6-7 (5). Hughes earned her ninety-third career win in the final set by a score of 10-6.
