Three Panthers Earn Fourth-Consecutive Win

PITTSBURGH-Senior Emily Hughes posted her fourth-consecutive win in singles action, as the University of Pittsburgh women's tennis team improved to 10-4 on the season due to a 7-2 win over host Carnegie Mellon.

The Panthers picked up wins in doubles action as Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) and freshman Christie D'achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny) teamed in an 8-4 victory of the Tartans in the No. 2 slot, improving to 5-3 as a duo.

Junior Annie Davies (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and senior Becky Emmers (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) posted an 8-6 win in their No. 3 doubles match up and are now 5-4 on the year.

Also picking up their fourth-straight win, freshman Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and Davies won in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Borza leads the team with a 20-5 record, while Davies is 10-9.

Sophomore Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) posted a 6-3, 6-2 win and improved to 19-6, while D'Achille earned her fifth singles win of the season after recording the win in game three due to a 4-6 fall in game two.

Pitt resumes conference play on Friday, March 31 at Rutgers. The Panthers face the Scarlet Knights at 2p.m. prior to traveling to Providence and Uconn on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
