PITTSBURGH – Yvonne Whaley of softball and Billy Corcoran of baseball were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Whaley led Pitt softball offensively in the Panthers’ series against Boston College, totaling a .556 batting average with five hits, three RBI, three runs and a home run while drawing two walks and stealing two bases. The senior infielder is riding a five-game hitting streak and has recorded a hit in 10 of her last 11 games. She leads the squad in batting average (.333), hits (38), and is second in runs (16) and tied for first in stolen bases (7).
Corcoran led the Pitt baseball team to a 4-1 win Sunday at home over No. 5 Virginia that clinched the Panthers’ fourth consecutive ACC series victory and third in a row at home to a ranked team. Corcoran allowed no earned runs and walks with seven hits and four strikeouts in seven innings.
