
Panthers Fall to No.19 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL — The Pitt women's soccer team (5-7-2, 1-5 ACC) dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 19 North Carolina on Sunday evening at Dorrance Field.
The Tar Heels opened the scoring in the 18th minute, as Linda Ullmark found the back of the net to give UNC an early lead. Pitt generated several first-half opportunities, including a breakaway chance from Margaret Wilde, but couldn't convert. The Panthers outshot North Carolina 8-6 in the first half, with four shots on goal, but trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Pitt responded quickly after the break, leveling the match in the 47th minute. A cross from Lola Abraham found Lucia Wells at the back post, who slotted it home to tie the game at 1-1 for her first goal of the season.
North Carolina regained the lead in the 57th minute on a goal from Lauren Malsom and added insurance in the 78th minute when Olivia Thomas scored to seal the 3-1 win.
UNC held a narrow edge in shots, 17-15, and also led 8-7 in shots on goal. Katie Ellermeyer paced the Panthers with seven shots, including two on target, while Magali Gagne also added two shots on frame. Goalkeeper Abby Reisz made five saves for Pitt.
