Panthers Face No.3 Virginia on the Road

PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women's soccer team (5-9-2, 1-7-0 ACC) will close its road trip Sunday, Oct. 26, against No. 3 Virginia (10-2-3, 4-2-2 ACC) in Charlottesville. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

The Opening Kick

Pitt looks to rebound from a narrow 2-1 loss to Wake Forest on Thursday night. Despite a dominant second-half performance, the Panthers couldn't find the equalizer before the final whistle.
Sunday marks the eighth all-time meeting between Pitt and Virginia, with the Cavaliers holding a 7-0 advantage. The teams last met in 2020, when UVA earned a 2-1 overtime win.
Eight different Panthers have scored this season, led by freshman Katie Ellermeyer with six goals. Ellermeyer was recently named to the TopDrawerSoccer Midseason Top 100 Freshmen list, coming in at No. 57. In Pitt's most recent match, Mya Archibald netted her first goal in a Panther uniform.
Magali Gagne has returned to the lineup, averaging more than 80 minutes per game over her last four appearances. She has seven shots — four on target — in the past three matches. Gagne was recently named to the Canadian Women's Futsal National Team ahead of the Futsal World Cup in November.
Pitt's defense has been steady throughout the season, anchored by Sage Seltzer and Olivia Lee, who have started every match. Lee leads the team with 1,437 minutes played.

Scouting Virginia

Virginia enters Sunday's match seeking its first win in four games after falling 3-2 to No. 11 Florida State. The Cavaliers earned a 2-2 draw at Louisville in their last road outing.
Eleven different Cavaliers have scored this season, led by Lia Godfrey with eight goals and four assists.
UVA is 4-0 all-time against Pitt at home.
