
Pitt Comes Up Short at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Pitt women's soccer team (5-9-2, 1-7 ACC) fell 2-1 on the road to Wake Forest on Thursday night.
The Demon Deacons struck first in the 17th minute when Allie Flanagan sent in a cross that Alex Wood finished with a one-touch strike. Wake Forest doubled its lead in the 25th minute off a set piece, converting a free kick to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Despite the early deficit, Pitt controlled much of the second half. The Panthers outshot Wake Forest 8-2 after the break, putting three efforts on target.
Mya Archibald scored her first career goal in the 76th minute, converting a cross from Margaret Wilde along the right endline to cut the deficit in half. Pitt continued to press for an equalizer but couldn't complete the comeback before the final whistle.
The Panthers outshot Wake Forest 14-7 overall, with each side recording four shots on goal. Wilde led the attack with two attempts on frame, including a first-half strike that forced a save. Lola Abraham added four shots, while Magali Gagne contributed three.

Pitt continues its road trip Sunday, visiting Virginia in Charlottesville. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on ACCNX.
