PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women's soccer team (5-8-2, 1-6-0 ACC) will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to face Wake Forest (9-3-3, 3-2-2 ACC) on Thursday, Oct. 23, at Spry Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
THE OPENING KICK
- Pitt opens its final road swing of the regular season with a trip to Wake Forest, the first of two away matches this weekend. The Panthers aim to snap a four-game losing streak after falling 1-0 to NC State at home.
- Thursday marks the ninth all-time meeting between the programs, with the Demon Deacons holding a 6-2 lead in the series. In their most recent matchup, Wake Forest earned a 2-0 victory.
- Seven different Panthers have scored this season, led by freshman Katie Ellermeyer, who has six goals. Ellermeyer netted the game-winner in Pitt's first ACC victory of the season against Boston College.
- Senior Margaret Wilde has been a key figure in the attack, making nine starts in 15 appearances. She ranks second on the team with three goals and contributed a goal and an assist in the win over BC. Wilde also leads Pitt in shot accuracy, converting 50 percent of her shots on target. She recorded all of Pitt's shots on goal in the match against NC State.
- Midfielder Magali Gagne has returned to the lineup, averaging more than 80 minutes per game over her last three appearances. Gagne has four total shots, including three on target, in the last two matches. She was recently named to the Canadian women's futsal national team for the upcoming Futsal World Cup in November.
- Pitt's backline has shown consistency, with Sage Stelzer and Olivia Lee starting every match. Lee leads the team in minutes played with 1,347 on the season.
SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
- The Demon Deacons are seeking their first win since Sept. 25, when they edged Duke 3-2. Since then, they've dropped two of their last three matches, with losses to NC State and Clemson.
- Freshman forward Kylie Maxwell leads Wake Forest with five goals and five assists. She was named the nation's top freshman by Top Drawer Soccer on Oct. 10.
- Head coach Tony da Luz is in his 29th season leading the program. He guided Wake Forest to the national championship game last season, where the Deacons narrowly fell to North Carolina, 1-0.
