
Mattson Named Pirates’ Triple-A Pitcher of the Year, Community Commitment Award Recipient

PITTSBURGH – Former Panther and current Triple-A pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, Isaac Mattson, was recognized by the Pirates for his contributions to the community on Sunday afternoon. As for his contributions on the mound, Mattson was also named the Indianapolis Indians' 2024 Pitcher of the Year.
As a part of Roberto Clemente Day festivities, the Pirates' Clemente Award Nominee was recognized pregame alongside the sons of The Great One. A player from each of the Pirates affiliate and development teams were also recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community in each of the cities they've played in this season.
The Roberto Clemente Award is bestowed annually to the MLB player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
Mattson was the Indianapolis Indians' representative on Sunday. While in Indianapolis this summer, Mattson participated in almost every community opportunity they had, which included their annual Youth Clinic, Faith and Fellowship Night while also visiting children at Riley Hospital for Children a couple weeks ago. The former Panther also participated in their 988 partnership for suicide awareness, telling his mother's story on video for Suicide Prevention Month.
In Indianapolis this season, Mattson has appeared in 28 games and owns a 5-1 record with a 3.20 ERA. He has earned three saves and one hold in 59.0 innings of work.
As a Panther, he appeared in 59 games where he accumulated 104 strikeouts in 94.0 innings while maintaining a 3.64 ERA in his three-year career at Pitt.
Mattson was a 19th round draft selection by the Los Angeles Angels in 2017 and made his MLB debut with the Baltimore Orioles in 2021.
