Pitt Preps for Double Midweek

PITTSBURGH – The Panthers prep for a double dose of midweek action as they travel to Youngstown State on Tuesday afternoon before hosting Wright State on Wednesday evening.
Pitt will make the quick trip to Niles, OH to take on the Youngstown State Penguins at Eastwood Field at 1 PM on Tuesday afternoon.
They will be right back in action on Wednesday evening when they host Wright State at 4 PM at Charles L. Cost Field.
TOP OF THE ORDER
• Dom Popa is off to the best start of his career, batting .329 with 55 hits and 39 runs scored. He leads the team in hits (55) and stolen bases (6), and is second in average (.329), runs scored (39), doubles (9) and on base percentage (.437).
• First baseman Luke Cantwell is currently second in the ACC in on base percentage (.519), walks (46) and walks/game (1.05). He is 12th in the country in walks/game (1.13), 13th in the country walks (46) and is tied for fifth in the ACC in HBPs (13).
• Matt Fernandez came out of the bullpen in the second inning of Sunday's game at Notre Dame and threw six shutout innings in relief. The right-hander allowed just one hit and one walk while tying his Pitt career-high for strikeouts in a game with eight.
• Phil Fox has emerged as Pitt's go-to late-inning arm out of the bullpen. He has appeared in 19 games and has given up just four runs. Fox is 3-2 with six saves and a 1.19 ERA.
• Senior C.J. Funk is now fourth all-time in walks in Pitt baseball history with 118 base on balls. Funk clinched the mark in his first at-bat of Friday's win at Notre Dame.
• Pitt's top of the order has been finding every way to get on base. Luke Cantwell leads the team in walks (46) and HBPs (13) while Dom Popa is right behind him with 11 HBPs. They each rank in the top ten in the ACC in HBPs.
