
Pitt Gymnastics Prepped for ACC Championships

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team is prepped for the first ACC Championships in over 40 years on Saturday, March 23 at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. This championship quad meet is slated for 7:00 p.m. and will stream live on the ACC Network.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP
- This will be the first time the four ACC foes have competed in an ACC Championship together in program history.
- No. 1 seeded NC State will compete in Olympic order with No. 2 Clemson starting on bars, Pitt on beam and North Carolina on floor.
- NC State won the first and only ACC Gymnastics Championship title in 1984 and was crowned the regular 2024 season ACC champions.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers completed their regular season campaign at the Teen Choice Award Presents: Kidney Care Gymnastics Championships, Saturday afternoon at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.
- Pitt posted their third highest team score of the season (195.925), topping the Talladega Tornados (192.500) but failing to the Georgia GymDogs (197.450), Maryland Terrapins (196.725), and Iowa Hawkeyes (196.525).
- The Panthers started the afternoon off on beam – posting a team score of 48.825. Sophomore Carla Ferzoco posted a career-high score of 9.800 for her routine. Hallie Copperwheat also showed up for Pitt – earning a 9.800 as well.
- Pitt came in ready for more in the second rotation – putting up a team score of 49.125. Each of the six Panthers in the lineup up secured a 9.800 or higher.
- Coming off of the bye rotation, the Panthers showed up on vault. Five Panthers posted a 9.750 or higher on the event. Fifth year Shruthi Anand secured a strong 9.825.
- The Panthers rounded out the afternoon on bars. Each Panther on the rotation earned a 9.700 or higher with three Panthers posting a 9.800+. Ewing posted Pitt's highest score on the event with her 9.850. Simons was not far behind her – earning a 9.825.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- This will be the 60th time the Wolfpack and the Panthers have met with NC State holding the 38-11 lead on Pitt.
- Last time out, No. 19 NC State posted a 196.825, topping Iowa State and LIU, but falling short to Florida, Friday night.
- The Wolfpack posted a season high 49.250 vault score with a 49.375 on beam and a 49.300 on floor.
- Chloe Negrete tied for the first-place title at the quad meet with her 9.925 routine. She also secured a new personal best with her 9.925 on vault.
- NC State saw three gymnasts post a 9.800 or higher on bars, four 9.825+ on beam, five 9.800+ on floor and five 9.800+ on vault.
- The Wolfpack completed their regular season campaign with a 16-6 total record and a 6-0 conference record.
SCOUTING THE TARHEELS
- Saturday will be the 54th time North Carolina and Pitt have met with the Tarheels holding a 39-14 lead.
- On Friday evening, the Tarheels posted their season-high road score of 196.075 but fell to the No. 2 LSU Tigers.
- North Carolina also secured season-high scores on beam (49.225) and floor (49.300).
- Gwen Fink posted a career-high score in the all-around after putting up a 39.325.
- Lali Dekanoidze earned the second place title on vault with her 9.900. Two other Tarheels earned a 9.850 on the event.
- North Carolina posted their season best on floor – earning a 49.300 team total. All gymnasts who counted scores on the rotation posted a 9.800 or higher.
- The team rounded out their final regular season meet on beam with their 49.225. All counted scores were a 9.800 or higher on the event.
- The Tarheels completed their regular season campaign with a 5-12 total record and a 1-5 conference record.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- The ACC Championships will be the third time Clemson and Pitt have met as this is the Tigers' inaugural season. Clemson currently holds a 2-0 lead to the Panthers.
- Last time out, Clemson fell to UCLA 198.550-196.825, to round out their regular season campaign.
- The Tigers posted a 48.700 on bars – counting four 9.800 or higher scores.
- Clemson secured a new season high on vault after earning a 49.450 team score on the event. Molly Arnold posted a career-high 9.975 after earning a 10.000 from one judge. The Tigers also counted four 9.850+ scores on the event.
- The Tigers posted a 49.375 on floor with all scores being 9.825 or higher.
- Clemson rounded out their final regular season meet with four 9.875+ scores.
- The Tigers completed their regular season campaign with a 8-4 total record and a 4-2 conference record.
ARAYAH SUNSHINE
- Simons posted a strong performance on Friday night against Clemson. Simons earned a 9.825 or higher across the three events she competed in. Kicking off the evening strong, the fifth year posted a 9.850 on vault. Continuing her momentum, she secured a 9.825 for her routine on bars. The fifth year completed the evening with a strong performance on beam – earning a 9.850 for her routine.
THE TERRIFIC TODD
- Freshman Todd who secured the first-ever ACC Newcomer of the Week honor (1/9) posted the highest score Pitt has seen thus far this season on Friday evening. She earned a 9.900 for her routine on bars.
- The Bristol, England native tied for the first place title on bars against Clemson (1/21) with her 9.825.
- The freshman posted a 9.725 for her routine on beam – earning a career high against Clemson (2/9).
- Todd secured a career high on vault with her 9.750 as well as on floor after earning a 9.875 for her routine at North Carolina (2/16).
NOTHING BETTER THAN BEDMINSTER
- Senior Bedminster secured Pitt's first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week honor (1/15) for her performance against the Kent State Golden Flashes.
- The Loganville, GA native posted a season-high on vault with her 9.825 against the Wolfpack.
- In the meet at NC State (1/26), Bedminster secured a career-high 9.875 with her floor routine.
- Senior Jah'Liyah Bedminster posted a career-high 9.950 – securing a perfect score for her vault (2/2). The Panthers haven't seen a 9.950 on vault since Alyse Zeffiro in 2004.
- Her efforts against North Carolina (2/2) secured her the ACC Specialist of the Week honor.
- Bedminster matched her career high score on floor against North Carolina (2/16).
