PITTSBURGH – Pitt gymnastics head coach Casey Jo MacPherson announced the promotion of Lexi Funk from assistant coach to associate head coach. Funk has played a key role in the program's growth and will continue to help elevate Pitt gymnastics.
"I'm so excited to announce the promotion of Lexi to associate head coach," said MacPherson. "She's been such an important part of what we're building here at Pitt. Her ability to connect with our athletes, develop talent and elevate our culture have had a big impact on the progress we've shown. Since day one, we've really aligned in our mindset and coaching philosophies, and I'm thrilled to continue building together as we push this program to even greater heights. The best is yet to come, and I'm grateful to have her by my side on this journey!"
Funk will enter her fourth season on staff and first in the new role in 2027. She primarily oversees the bars lineup, helping guide Pitt to a No. 27 national ranking on the event with a 48.978 National Qualifying Score (NQS).
Under her direction, Hallie Copperwheat, Jaime Pratt and Camryn Chiu advanced to NCAA Regionals as individual bars qualifiers. The Panthers finished the 2026 season ranked No. 38 in the final Road to Nationals standings, marking the program's highest finish since 2020. Funk has also been instrumental in Pitt's recruiting efforts, with Audrey Dupart, Hailey Avellar, Dara Williamson and Bella Woods set to join the program for the 2027 season.
"The momentum we're building within Pitt Gymnastics is something special, and there is a real excitement around the culture, the athletes and the direction of the program," said Funk. "I'm honored to step into this role at such a pivotal time and grateful for the continued opportunity to grow here at Pitt. I'm looking forward to helping lead what's next and continuing to build something special. Hail to Pitt!"
