Panthers Travel to Morgantown for Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team is traveling down to Morgantown, WV to meet rival West Virginia for a quad meet with Towson and Western Michigan, Sunday afternoon. The meet will air live on ESPN+ with a 2 p.m. start.

THE MATCH UP
- This will be the 55th time the Panthers have met the Towson Tigers. Towson, Pitt's former EAGL foe, currently holds a 35-20 lead to the Panthers.
- Sunday's quad meet will be the 91st meeting between Pitt's rival West Virginia. The Mountaineers hold a 70-18-2 edge on Pitt.
- Pitt has met Western Michigan seven times in the two program's history with the Broncos holding a close 4-3 lead to the Panthers. Pitt is looking to equalize the record on Sunday afternoon.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt closed out their regular season conference schedule with a dual meet against conference champions NC State, Sunday afternoon. Pitt's 195.200 fell short to the Wolfpacks' 196.850 at the Fitzgerald Field House.
- The Panthers started the night off strong with all gymnasts posting a 9.700 or higher on vault. Fifth year Arayah Simons and freshman Julie Madso each put up a 9.800. Shruthi Anand secured Pitt's highest score on the event with her 9.825.
- Faith Lerro matched her career-high score – securing a 9.800 on bars. Simons had a strong routine – earning a 9.850. Jordyn Ewing had a beautiful dismount from her bars routine to secure a 9.850.
- Reyna Garvey posted a strong routine on beam – securing a 9.800. Hallie Copperwheat rounded out the rotation – putting up a showstopping routine to earn a 9.875.
- Pitt finished off the meet with their best event of the day – earning a 49.300 on floor. Each Panther earned a 9.775 or higher for their routines.
- Ciara Ward and Duke started the event off strong with their 9.825 routines. Copperwheat showed up for Pitt– earning a 9.875.
- Jah'Liyah Bedminster earned the first place overall title on floor with her 9.900.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- The Mountaineers posted a season-high 195.550 on Friday night against the number one ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
- West Virginia's team total score could not overcome Oklahoma's program record 198.675.
- The Mountaineers posted a 48.750 team score on bars with four gymnasts posting a 9.750 or higher.
- On vault, West Virginia posted a team score of 48.975 which included four scores of 9.800 or higher.
- The Mountaineers had their best rotation on floor – posting a 49.125. West Virginia secured four scores of 9.800 or higher with two gymnasts earning a 9.850.
- West Virginia topped the evening off on beam with a team score of 48.700. Emma Wehry earned a 9.850 to lead the Mountaineers on the event.
- Abbie Pierson secured an all-around score of 39.125 for the Mountaineers.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- The Towson Tigers became the EAGL regular season champion for the first time in their program's history after topping the LIU Sharks on Friday night.
- The Tigers claimed a program high score of 197.425 – the highest score recorded in EAGL history.
- Towson also recorded new program records on bars (49.450) and floor (49.650) with a season best on beam (49.100).
- The Tigers posted a 49.225 on vault to start their history night. Elise Tisler matched her career high 9.925 5o take first overall.
- Moving on to bars, Towson secured two gymnasts who received a perfect 10.0 from one judge. Isabella Minervini secured her second consecutive 9.975 for her routine.
- On beam, the tigers saw each gymnast secured a 9.750 or higher for their routines.
- Finishing out their night, Towson recorded scores of 9.850 or higher. Two gymnasts earned a perfect 10.0 from one judge for their floor routines – each recording a career-high 9.975.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
- Western Michigan claimed second overall in the Illinois State tri-meet – topping Alaska's 189.725 but falling short to Illinois State's 195.550. The Broncos posted a team score of 194.900.
- The Broncos were able to secure the first place title on every event on Friday night.
- Cassie St. Clair posted a 9.850 on vault to take first on the podium.
- Payton Murphy tied for first overall on bars with her 9.850 but secured first herself on floor with a 9.950. Her efforts on Friday also secured her the first place title in the all-around with her 39.325.
- Amanda Gruber tied for first on beam with her 9.850.
ARAYAH SUNSHINE
- Simons posted a strong performance on Friday night against Clemson. Simons earned a 9.825 or higher across the three events she competed in. Kicking off the evening strong, the fifth year posted a 9.850 on vault. Continuing her momentum, she secured a 9.825 for her routine on bars. The fifth year completed the evening with a strong performance on beam – earning a 9.850 for her routine.
THE TERRIFIC TODD
- Freshman Todd who secured the first-ever ACC Newcomer of the Week honor (1/9) posted the highest score Pitt has seen thus far this season on Friday evening. She earned a 9.900 for her routine on bars.
- The Bristol, England native tied for the first place title on bars against Clemson (1/21) with her 9.825.
- The freshman posted a 9.725 for her routine on beam – earning a career high against Clemson (2/9).
- Todd secured a career high on vault with her 9.750 as well as on floor after earning a 9.875 for her routine at North Carolina (2/16).
NOTHING BETTER THAN BEDMINSTER
- Senior Bedminster secured Pitt's first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week honor (1/15) for her performance against the Kent State Golden Flashes.
- The Loganville, GA native posted a season-high on vault with her 9.825 against the Wolfpack.
- In the meet at NC State (1/26), Bedminster secured a career-high 9.875 with her floor routine.
- Senior Jah'Liyah Bedminster posted a career-high 9.950 – securing a perfect score for her vault (2/2). The Panthers haven't seen a 9.950 on vault since Alyse Zeffiro in 2004.
- Her efforts against North Carolina (2/2) secured her the ACC Specialist of the Week honor.
- Bedminster matched her career high score on floor against North Carolina (2/16).
SHE'S JUST KEN
- Sophomore Duke posted a career-high score on floor against the Wolfpack – posting a 9.825.
- She earned a career-high score on beam against the Tar Heels with her 9.800 (2/16).
YAY FOR KAY
- Freshman Kaylee Larson posted a career high score on floor with her 9.900 against North Carolina (2/3).
MARVELOUS MADSO
- Freshman Madso posted a career-high score on vault against the North Carolina Tar Heels with her 9.825 (2/16).
UP NEXT
- The Panthers will return home for their final home meet of the season to host Bowling Green State on Friday, March 8 where they will honor their seniors on Senior Night.
