Panthers Hit the Road to Meet North Carolina Friday Night

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (3-5, 1-3 ACC) is set to head down to Chapel Hill, NC to face off against North Carolina (2-8, 0-4 ACC) Friday Night at Carmichael Arena. This dual ACC matchup will air live on the ACC Network at 7 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
- This will be the 53rd time the two programs have met.
- The last time the Panthers and the Tarheels saw each other was on Friday, Feb. 2nd. During their last meeting, Pitt topped North Carolina with their season high 196.525.
- North Carolina currently holds a 38-14 edge to the Panthers.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt posted their second highest team score of the season, 195.900, but came up short to the Clemson Tigers' 196.375 Friday night at the annual Pride meet.
- The Panthers kicked off the night with a strong performance on vault with four Panthers posting a 9.800 or higher on vault this evening.
- Sophomore Kennedy Duke kicked things off for Pitt with her 9.825. Arayah Simons was not far behind – posting a 9.850. Ciara Ward secured a strong 9.825.
- Senior Jah'Liyah Bedminster anchored the event for Pitt – earning a strong 9.900 for the Panthers on vault. With her score, she secured the first-place title overall.
- Simons had a strong evening – posting a 9.825 on bars and matched her career-high 9.850 on beam. The fifth-year's performance on beam earned her the first-place title.
- Pitt finished the evening off with their strongest event – finishing with a 49.175.
- Freshman Emily Todd secured a 9.800 on floor – completing her All-Around journey with a 38.900.
- Junior Jordyn Ewing anchored the event with a showstopping performance on floor – tying for the first place overall with her 9.900.
SCOUTING THE TARHEELS
- North Carolina posted five podium finishes against NC State on Sunday evening.
- The Tar Heels' 194.925 came up short to the Wolfpack's 196.725.
- North Carolina had their strongest event of the night on floor – posting a 49.100. This is their second highest score they have received on the event this season.
- The Tar Heels' all-arounder, Julia Knower, earned the second place title overall with her 39.150. She posted a 9.700 on bars, 9.750 on vault, 9.850 on floor and 9.850 on floor.
- Lali Dekanoidze posted a second place overall finish on bars with her 9.850 routine.
- Kaya Forbes and Dekanoidze tied for the second-place podium spot on vault – each earning a 9.825.
- Camryn Rueda posted a 9.875 with her floor routine – earning the second place title as well as posting a career high score.
- Bella Miller was not far behind – earning a 9.850 personal record for her routine.
- Freshman Rueda secured the ACC Newcomer of the Week honors after her performance against NC State.
ARAYAH SUNSHINE
- Simons posted a strong performance on Friday night against Clemson. Simons earned a 9.825 or higher across the three events she competed in. Kicking off the evening strong, the fifth year posted a 9.850 on vault. Continuing her momentum, she secured a 9.825 for her routine on bars. The fifth year completed the evening with a strong performance on beam – earning a 9.850 for her routine.
THE TERRIFIC TODD
- Freshman Todd who secured the first-ever ACC Newcomer of the Week honor (1/9) posted the highest score Pitt has seen thus far this season on Friday evening. She earned a 9.900 for her routine on bars.
- The Bristol, England native tied for the first place title on bars against Clemson (1/21) with her 9.825.
- The freshman posted a 9.725 for her routine on beam – earning a career high against Clemson (2/9).
NOTHING BETTER THAN BEDMINSTER
- Senior Bedminster secured Pitt's first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week honor (1/15) for her performance against the Kent State Golden Flashes.
- The Loganville, GA native posted a season-high on vault with her 9.825 against the Wolfpack.
- In the meet at NC State (1/26), Bedminster secured a career-high 9.875 with her floor routine.
- Senior Jah'Liyah Bedminster posted a career-high 9.950 – securing a perfect score for her vault (2/2). The Panthers haven't seen a 9.950 on vault since Alyse Zeffiro in 2004.
- Her efforts against North Carolina (2/2) secured her the ACC Specialist of the Week honor.
SHE'S JUST KEN
- Sophomore Duke posted a career-high score on floor against the Wolfpack – posting a 9.825.
YAY FOR KAY
- Freshman Kaylee Larson posted a career high score on floor with her 9.900 against North Carolina (2/3).
UP NEXT
The Panthers will return back to the Fitzgerald Field House on Sunday, Feb. 25 to host the NC State Wolfpack. This ACC dual meet will take place at 4 p.m. and will be aired live on the ACC Network.
