Panthers Claim Second at Season Opening Keystone Classic

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (2-1-0, 0-0-0 ACC) opened their 2024 season at the annual Keystone Classic Friday evening at the Palestra. The Panthers topped the Penn Quakers and Temple Owls but fell to the Penn State Nittany Lions, claiming second place overall.
Three freshmen Panthers made their collegiate debut this evening including Kaylee Larson, Julie Madso and Emily Todd along with transfers Shruthi Anand, Jah'Liyah Bedminster and Arayah Simons making their debuts as Pitt Panthers.
BEAM
Freshman Todd made her collegiate debut this evening, starting off on the first rotation with a 9.650. Both Todd and Hallie Copperwheat registered a 9.650 for their balance beam routines.
FLOOR
Sophomore Kennedy Duke kicked off the second rotation for the Panthers, finishing with a 9.725 for her routine. Fifth-year Ciara Ward registered a 9.700. Jordyn Ewing finished the rotation for Pitt, claiming a 9.725.
VAULT
Fifth year Anand posted the highest score on vault for the Panthers, earning a 9.800. Ward secured a 9.750 on vault this evening. Both Bedminster and Duke secured a 9.725.
BARS
The Panthers finished the evening off with their strongest rotation of the evening. The team posted a 49.100 for their performance on bars. Senior Bedminster finished strong for the Panthers, posting a 9.850 for her routine. With her score, she secured the second-place title this evening. Both Simons and Ewing tied for the third-place title on bars with their score of 9.825.
Freshman Duke was Pitt's only All-Around competitor this evening – placing second-place overall with her total score of 38.150.
UP NEXT
The Pitt Panthers will head back to Pittsburgh for their home opener as they welcome Kent State on Saturday, Jan. 13. This dual meet is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
